Now that the days are shortening on the northern hemisphere, summer arrives in the southern part of the world. In Antarctica, spring arrives with the penguins that come to shore to breed. But it is still cold down here: the weather in October is comparable to the Arctic winter. It snows often and it is windy all the time; the temperature being beyond freezing. The penguins have all arrived by now and are waiting for the snow to melt: they need pebbles to built their nests and lay their eggs. It was incredible to be on shore during the blizzard: life just went on, the colony of Gentoo penguins being as busy as ever despite the howling winds and the drifting snow. What an experience!
